Hednesford compared with Turkish club

Hednesford Town has been compared with Turkish Süper Lig outfit Bursaspor in a bizarre post on Twitter.

A Turkish Twitter user said Hednesford's football pitch is better Bursaspor's, even though Hednesford are non-league and Bursaspor are in the Turkish top flight.

It is a comparison that Hednesford bosses have found amusing, as they paid tribute to their ground staff for the quality of the pitch.

In the first post, Twitter user Yusuf Enes S showed both pitches side by side and wrote: "On the left is the floor of a team playing in the Turkish Super League, and the UK 7 on the right. The backdrop of the league team Hednesford Town.. Pity, seriously."

Yusuf added: "Your men's capacity not even 1000 people, but look at the perfection of this field. It smells like football. "

The pitch at Keys Park is looked after by husband and wife David and Val Bates.

David tweeted: "I'm NOT going to tell you as to where I've had a recent approach from to look after a Football Ground.

"But the weather is outstanding and it would be a real treat to get prolonged warm conditions to work in.

"And they will Pay. That'll be Great. Where do I Sign?"

Bursaspor is based in the city of Bursa, located in the north west of Turkey.

Hednesford play in the Premier Division of the Northern Premier League, which is the seventh tier of English football. They are currently fifth in the table, out of 24 teams.

Scott Smith, press officer for Hednesford, said: "It was all very bizarre.

"Dave and Val have looked after the ground for the passed three seasons, and each year it has improved. But Dave still thinks there could be more improvement.

"The pitch is also used by Wolves women's team and Aston Villa's under 23s. We have played about 60 matches on it this season.

"The guy who first posted the tweet has now started to follow us. He congratulated us after Saturday's win (3-1 against Farsley Celtic). We have now got a Turkish following."
