Prisoners had to be relocated following the incident in House 5 at HMP Featherstone in August.

It was closed for repairs due to damage caused by the prisoners involved.

But now the prison block is back open, said Independent Monitoring Board member Keith Hollinshead, who visited the prison.

He said the block, which has the capacity for 100 prisoners, was open to 40 people.

In a report compiled by the board, Mr Hollinshead also revealed how the initial clear-up cost following the incident was £35,000.

No staff or prisoners were injured, the Ministry of Justice said in the wake of the disorder.

It was understood the trouble flared when one inmate refused to return to his cell and others joined in his resistance against prison officers.

After it escalated a group barricaded themselves inside one of the cells.

Following the trouble, police carried out operations at HMP Featherstone and HMP Oakwood, arrested five people for drug offences.
