Doris Scriven was left in high spirits after staff and residents at The Willows care home threw her a surprise party on Thursday.

The 100-year-old was also treated to open-house daytime celebrations by a close family friend before the care home party.

Deputy manager Jordan Roberts said Ms Scriven was shocked by the surprise celebrations, adding: "She was really surprised, she loved it.

"She doesn't have any children so she had never had anything like that before. It was lovely, it was nice to see her happy. She is really kind."

Ms Roberts provided the entertainment at the Codsall care home during Ms Scriven's bash, treating her to favourite tunes including Eva Cassidy's Songbird.

She said Ms Scriven - who is from Stourbridge - had been living at the Wolverhampton Road home for about a year, adding: "I just did it as a one off for Doris because she loves it when I sing."
