Wolverhampton wind turbine plan: Petition launched against huge tower the size of 29 double decker buses
A petition has been launched to stop a wind turbine – the height of 29 double decker buses – being built in Wolverhampton.
Residents who don't want the 126m turbine to be installed at UTC Aerospace in Stafford Road, Fordhouses, have collected around 50 signatures so far, and aim for 500.
The Express & Star revealed last month the UTC is looking to commission CleanEarth to build the turbine at the site, which would dwarf Victoria Halls student accommodation, the city's highest building.
It would tower higher than St Luke's Church in Blakenhall, which is 52m, and would only be 26m shorter than the BT Tower in Birmingham, the second city's tallest structure.
A public consultation has been launched by CleanEarth and UTC, as the company looks to reduce its carbon footprint by using the turbine to create electricity.
CleanEarth said the wind turbine will provide a renewable resource of electricity to UTC Aerospace Systems, helping decrease their carbon footprint in the future.
