The car was completely destroyed after catching fire on Birmingham Road, Dudley, near Tesco at the Burnt Tree junction.

The blaze led to Birmingham Road being closed in both directions at around 8.30am which led to major delays on the Birmingham New Road, with delays of around half an hour reported.

The fire is believed to have started accidentally.

West Midlands Fire Service spokesman Matthew Smith said: "One car was well-alight on the dual carriageway. On arrival, police closed the road in both directions. Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose-reel jets to tackle the blaze."

The carriageway heading out of Dudley town centre was reopened once the fire was brought under control. One lane of the opposite side of the carriageway remained blocked until around 11am.
