The man in his 40s suffered a fractured ankle after his foot became stuck in a leg pressing machine at Pure Gym in High Street at around 1pm this afternoon.
He was trapped for around 20 minutes and was eventually freed by firefighters who carried out a controlled lift of the equipment using an air bag. He was taken to Sandwell Hospital for treatment.
West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Steve Parry said: "Crews were called to a gym following reports that a man had been working-out when he became trapped by a heavy leg weight machine. Bystanders made attempts to free the man from the machine, but he was eventually released with the assistance of the fire service."
