Livestock killed in farmyard fire in Staffordshire

Seventeen firefighters tackled a blaze involving a barn in Staffordshire which left some livestock dead.

Crews from Stone, Stafford and Longton were called to the fire at the barn off The Fillybrooks at 3.20pm yesterday.

The barn, containing hay, measured 65ft by 49ft and crews used two hose reel jets to extinguish the flames and stop them from spreading any further.

The fire killed some livestock and also destroyed around 700 tons of hay.

Farm machinery was used to help tackle the blaze, officials at Staffordshire Fire Service said.
