Major delays in Cannock after two serious fires break out

An HGV carrying scrap cars caught fire today causing major delays for drivers in Cannock.

Firefighters from Cannock, Penkridge and Chase Terrace are currently tackling the lorry fire near to the Poplars Landfill site off Lichfield Road.

The blaze started at 9.45am, according to Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman Michelle Hunt.

Meanwhile firefighters are still out at the scene of a fire at Halfords in the town. A 100 metre cordon is still in place in the area and roads are closed.

Two crews - one from Cannock and one from Brewood - are currently at the scene.

The fire started yesterday at 4.25pm after a gas cylinder overheated and caught fire at the business in Walsall Road.

The situation has been described as 'stable' today.
