Three-year-old girl hit by car in Tipton

A three-year-old girl suffered a serious leg injury when she was hit by a car in Tipton this afternoon.

The girl was taken to Birmingham Children's Hospital with a fractured leg and a head injury following the incident, which happened on the A461 Dudley Port, at 3.15pm.

Paramedics gave pain relief to the young girl before taking her to hospital for further emergency treatment.

No-one else was injured.

Dudley Port was closed for just over an hour, before opening at 5pm.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "West Midlands Ambulance Service attended and the girl was taken to hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "The girl, who had reportedly been in collision with a car, was quickly assessed by ambulance staff and found to have sustained a suspected fractured leg and head injury.

"Medics administered pain relief to the youngster to help stabilise her condition before carefully immobilising her onto a scoop stretcher."

The girl was taken to Birmingham Children's Hospital.
