The remains were discovered along a stretch of waterway in Ladywood on Monday.

Officers have now moved their search to another part of the canal, off Bridge Street North, in Smethwick.

Three or four police divers in wetsuits were at the scene this afternoon along with officers on the canal towpath.

Access to the pathway was also restricted, with PCSOs patrolling the area.

Detective Inspector Harry Harrison, who is leading the investigation, said officers were in Smethwick to carry out further inquiries and searches.

"Inquiries are currently ongoing to examine the remains and we would like to hear from anyone who may have information about this," he said.

Officers in Force CID at Harborne can be contacted on the non-emergency 101.

Alternatively people can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
