The crash took place on Hawes Lane, Rowley Regis, at around 10pm last night and involved a Land Rover Discovery.

Council workers had to be called out to turn off the live electricity supply to the lamppost after the smash.

Ian Nash, crew commander of Oldbury Fire Station, whose crew was called to the scene, said the driver walked away from the smash and was not believed to have suffered serious injuries.

The driver, a man believed to be in his 30s, was seen by paramedics who were called to the scene before he was due to be interviewed by police as he was allegedly drink driving, said Mr Nash.
