Body found in burned out car in Cradley Heath

A body has been discovered in a burned out car near to Cradley Heath railway station.

Police were called at around 9.20pm last night by the fire service. An investigation was immediately launched.

The fire was so fierce that the identity of the deceased is yet to be established. A forensic post mortem is scheduled to take place later tomorrow.

A cordon was in place this afternoon at the scene of the fire, on land opposite the train station on Forge Lane.

Detective Inspector Warren Hines, from Force CID, who is leading the investigation, this evening said: "This was an intense fire which all but destroyed the Peugeot 306.

"Once fire-fighters extinguished the flames they discovered a body inside the car.

"At this time we are yet to establish the person's identity or the cause of their death which is being treated as unexplained."

A number of people have been spoken with and local inquiries have been conducted. CCTV footage is also being trawled.
