The driver, believed to be in his 80s, had been parking the vehicle in his garage at his home in Russett Close, Walsall, when he accidently accelerated and crashed into the wall.

Firefighters from Walsall and Bloxwich attended the scene along with paramedics at around 1.30pm yesterday afternoon.

The man was checked over at the scene but received no injuries, while his wife was taken to hospital to be treated for shock.

One resident said: "I'm not sure what happened – it seems as if his foot may have just slipped off the pedal."

Watch commander John Horton said the damage to the wall was extensive. He added: "The driver was okay but he was quite shaken up which is understandable."
