Firefighters were called to rescue the pensioner who managed to grab hold of cables to prevent him sliding off.

He was helped down with a ladder by fire crews from his semi-detached home in Hawksmoor Road, Stafford, on Saturday afternoon.

Paramedics were also called to the address at around 2.45pm although the man did not need to be taken to hospital.

He escaped with cuts and bruises and was given oxygen therapy as a precaution.
