Planes struggle to land as wind batters West Midlands

News | Published:

Two aeroplanes struggled to land at Birmingham Airport tonight as high winds battered the West Midlands.

FlyBe BE854 flight reported 'operational issues' as it tried to land, eventually arriving safely at 8:25pm.

As a precaution Air Traffic Control stopped trains running through Birmingham International station.

Minutes later Monarch flight zb495 from Larnaca tried unsuccessfully to land twice, but managed to land on the third attempt at 8.34pm.

Elsewhere, a tree fell and blocked a road in Penn, and there were reports of another fallen tree in Himley.
