Detectives want your help in catching them and making sure they face justice.

The 12 suspects are wanted by police for questioning over a host of crimes in the Black Country and they feature in an online gallery on the force's website.

Among them is Ghuman Surjit, 33, who is wanted on suspicion of assaulting a member of staff at a care home in the Great Barr area on May 23. It is alleged he was in the residents' area of the home at around 9.20am and was asked to leave, before becoming racially abusive and refusing. A scuffle broke out and a woman sustained a scratch to her leg before the culprit fled.

Another to appear on the criminal gallery of shame is Walsall man Robert Knight, 52, who is wanted in connection with smuggling drugs into the UK.

Detectives from West Midlands Police want to speak with Knight in relation to the importation of six kilograms of Venezuelan cocaine into Britain via Heathrow Airport.

The illegal consignment was intercepted by West Midlands officers as part of Operation Barussa, an investigation into the importation and distribution of illegal drugs and associated money laundering by a large criminal network.

The sting, executed in April 2008, resulted in five men being arrested and jailed for their role in the crime and their ill-gotten gains seized. It is believed that Knight may have left the country at around the same time as the drugs, worth £300,000, were seized. Knight's last known address was in the Brownhills area of Walsall but he also has links to Lichfield and Birmingham as well as Belgium, Gibraltar, Thailand and South Africa.

Police believe he may be living in the Estepona area of Spain – just 20 miles from Marbella on the south coast.

Detective Sergeant Ian Taylor, from the force's intelligence bureau, said: The images featured in the article and other people we are hunting can be found on West Midlands Police website in our wanted section. As well as following active lines of enquiry we regularly review the people who are wanted and will always act upon any information given to us.

"Enquiries suggest some of these individuals may have fled the country – but as many criminals have found to their cost we have close links with Interpol and other police forces across Europe and have a strong track record in bringing suspects back to the UK to face justice.

"People within the Black Country are our eyes and ears on the ground and play a huge role in helping us bring these people to justice and we urge anyone who recognises anyone in the images to call us on 101. The online picture library has received more than 186,000 hits since its launch in April 2012 with many of the arrests to date being as a direct result of information provided by the public.

"If anyone has information that could help with our investigations and they do not want to speak directly to us they can call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously."

Anyone who has information about anyone on the page should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. For the full gallery visit www.west-midlands.police.uk/wanted
