Thousands apply for just 30 jobs at new West Bromwich cinema

More than 2,000 people applied for just 30 jobs at West Bromwich's new cinema, it has been revealed.

The Odeon is part of the £200million New Square development which opens its doors on Friday.

The firm invested £3 million in the five-screen multiplex cinema, and recruited its staff from the local area.

Carl Fletcher, Cinema Senior Manager said: "West Bromwich has been without a cinema since 2002 and it something we know the local people very much want."

Mr Fletcher said the cinema had the latest state of the art technology.

Most of the company's cinemas have 5.1 Dolby surround sound, whereas the West Bromwich cinema will have the latest 7.1 system. All the screens are 3D enabled.

Bosses at the cinemas said they had already received bookings from local people and schools for their opening week.

Roger Harris, Odeon chief operating officer for UK and Ireland said: "We are thrilled to be part of the New Square development and very much looking forward to welcoming guests."

Steve Burr, centre manager for New Square added: "West Bromwich has waited a long time for its own cinema experience and I know that the Odeon will be a great asset."

To celebrate the opening on Thursday, Odeon is offering a family ticket discount.
