Stafford pensioner's carer walks free after stealing cash

A carer from Stafford who stole a bank card from a 90-year-old and used it to withdraw £200 of his money has avoided an immediate jail term.

Marianne Brumby was a senior field supervisor for Radis Community Care and made regular visits to John Flanagan at sheltered accommodation in Tithe Barn Court, Stafford, Cannock Magistrates Court heard yesterday.

Mr John Dove, prosecuting, said the card was taken from his flat in September last year. CCTV showed 49-year-old Brumby withdrawing £200 from a cash machine at the Co-op store in Stone Road. Brumby, of Rickerscote Road, was given a six-week jail term, suspended for 18 months, 200 hours unpaid work and told to pay £250 costs. She admitted one charge of fraud by false representation from September 16 last year and has since resigned from her job.
