Karate kick teenager admits attack on man

The 16-year-old from Wolverhampton appeared before district judge Graham Wilkinson yesterday. Judge Wilkinson warned the teen, who cannot be named for legal reasons, it was a "serious matter" and added: "There was absolutely no need for you to have done what you did. You did a running jump at the man and launched yourself at him.

"The speed you were travelling you didn't know where you were going to land."

The youth, who was dressed in a black suit and tie, only spoke to confirm his details and plead guilty to the charge of assault by beating the unknown man on September 15 this year.

CCTV footage of the attack caused outrage after it was published on the Express & Star website – and was viewed more than 20,000 times.

The CCTV was originally released by police to identify the attacker.

The images show the moments the man was kicked to the floor by the young thug.

It shows the elderly man wandering through the bus station.

He looks unsteady on his feet and is believed to be drunk.

The footage then shows him talking to people in the station and it appears the offenders take objection to whatever is said.

He is then kicked to the floor and while on the ground, another youth, aged 15, who has been cautioned, stamps on his chest.

Police sergeant Adrian Brown called it a "cowardly attack on a defenceless victim".

He added: "People who saw the footage were clearly angered and the response we had to releasing the appeal for information was excellent."

The victim of the attack has still not been identified by police but he is believed to be local.

The teenager was given conditional bail and will re-appear at court on December 20 for sentence.
