Booze until 5.30am at Bilston dance bar

A Bilston dance bar can serve booze until 5.30am seven days a week after licensing chiefs agreed, despite concerns moves may lead to extra noise.

The Foxy Lady Dance Bar, Oxford Street, won permission to extend hours it serves alcohol, despite councillors objecting on behalf of residents.

It already opens until 6am every day but approval of latest plans by licensing chiefs means it can now sell alcohol until 30 minutes before closing.

Police said there was no history of crime and owner David Parsons said noise nuisance fears were unfounded.

Councillor Bishan Dass, Wolverhampton City Council licensing sub-committee chair, asked for assurance it would not attract adverse publicity for the city, after unfounded rumours of use by swingers.

Mr Parsons said: "We have never had that happen. The investment we have put into the premises is considerable and I would never jeopardise it by doing something silly like that."

Ward councillors wrote to the committee saying they had had a number of residents approach them with worries about increased noise and traffic.

Mr Parsons dismissed those concerns, saying: "Our customers are generally more mature and are not rowdy and we have good staff with no thuggery around us."

The committee granted a licence extension until 5.30am, with the condition that there was a 'drinking up time' of half-an-hour before the venue closed at 6am.

Conditions were also imposed that the venue retain CCTV and door staff to guard against crime and disorder.

The venue offers private dances, music and live performances from midday.
