A business plan for the scheme is poised to be submitted "imminently".

The former factory site, in Lower Forster Street, has been standing empty for more than a year after it was destroyed by a huge blaze.

Plans will also include the addition of other health services such as a pharmacy and an opticians.

Councillor Mohammed Arif, representative for St Matthews, said: "The most recent development is there is another GP practice on board now, meaning we have three in total which would share the site to form this health centre.

"My understanding is that the business plan is very much imminent and will be submitted shortly."

Councillor Arif said he would be pleased to be the site transformed from its current derelict state.
