Police were last night granted a final 24 hours to question the former leisure centre worker and must make a decision by 5pm on whether to charge him.

The extension came after investigators revealed they had arrested the 46-year-old on suspicion of murdering April, from Machynlleth, Wales. He was initially held on suspicion of abduction.

The hunt for April re-sumed today after searchers were stood down overnight in atrocious weather.

The search was temporarily halted overnight so teams who have been tirelessly combing the area around Machynlleth could rest.

Emergency services, in-cluding the Coastguard, RNLI, RAF mountain rescue and 150 members of mountain rescue teams from across the UK, have been searching for April.
