The famous company has shut the doors to its Merry Hill Shopping Centre restaurant, with the loss of 14 jobs, following losses of nearly £1 million since 2010.

The restaurant, in the lower level of the centre, has already been boarded up and is being cleared out of its tables and chairs.

It is next to the site of the planned £1m leisure development announced by Paragon Entertainment.

It is not yet known how many jobs have been lost.

Andrew Hanson, spokesman for Harry Ramsden's, said: "Harry Ramsden's has regrettably closed its restaurant and takeaway in the Merry Hill Centre.

"Since 2010, the Merry Hill outlet has lost nearly £1m.

"In a tough economic climate where consumers are being more cash conscious, these losses are simply unsustainable, despite us restructuring the restaurant and making a number of changes, including operating it on minimum staffing levels."

The 160-seater restaurant closed on September 14.
