Fury at closure scheme for Chasewater road

A popular road that was closed for the multi-million pound Chasewater dam repairs is likely to remain shut.

The £5.5 million repair work to prevent an overflow and flooding is not complete, and neighbouring Pool Road has remained closed since August 2010.

Staffordshire County Council has said this is likely to become a permanent fixture, which has angered residents and councillors.

Eric Drinkwater a Lichfield District and town councillor for Chase Terrace, said: "If the county council has its way, the road will not be reopened to traffic except for residents of Pool Road.

"This will mean that people living in Burntwood will not be able to drive across the dam to gain access to the other side of Chasewater.

"Burntwood residents should be alert to the fact that there will shortly be a consultation taking place on the issue."
