Youngsters from four schools across the West Midlands are celebrating after scooping top titles in a popular annual Christmas choir competition.

A total of 42 schools across the region took part in this year's Merry Hill Christmas choir competition and winners have now been announced in four categories.

Picking up the title of best choir was St Mary's Roman Catholic School, in Brierley Hill, best performance went to St James C of E Primary School, Oldbury, the best newcomer award went to Wodensfield Primary School, Wolverhampton, and the judges' award was given to Westacre Middle School, Droitwich.

Each school walked away with £1,000 prize money to mark their efforts.

Youngsters were presented with certificates to mark their achievements at a special ceremony held at the Brierley Hill Centre.

Pupils from St Mary's RC School performed songs including Do you Hear What I Hear, Oh Holy Night and Winter Wonderland at yesterday's ceremony.
