The pupils from Berrybrook Primary School choir performed a carol concert for residents at Wulfrun Rose Nursing Home.

The concert saw 20 pupils aged between six and 11 perform a mixture of carols and Christmas songs.

There were also mince pies and other refreshments handed out by pupils to the residents.

It was the fourth year a concert had taken place at the home and was part of the community links between the school and the home.

Reception class teacher Miriam Hackett organised the event alongside charity club co-ordinator Tina Crozier and spoke about the benefits it would have for all involved.

She said: "It will help the children with understanding about different places where people live, with some of the residents spending every day inside the home.

"For the residents, it's something different for them and offers them festive cheer and a bit of fun, so it's great for both sides to have spent time together."

The school choir is part of the school's community links and helps to raise funds for the school and other charitable causes around the area.

Miriam said the concert also helped to emphasise the wellbeing of staff and children and spoke about the enjoyment it brought everyone.

She said: "I enjoyed the concert because I can see the children enjoying it and getting praise for their performances.

"It was also good to speak to some of the residents as it brought back memories of their school days as teachers.

"It just makes me happy to be able to bring that experience to people as music is so important to so many people."

The school aims to do more concerts in 2020 to support a number of local charities.
