Kiran Rai will make his debut in a Bollywood comedy film

Kiran Rai, who lived in Dunstall Hill prior to launching his acting career, will take on a role in the film "Marriage Online", alongside Rajpal Yadav.

It will represent another chance for the Nottingham-based actor to break into Indian cinema, having previously been set to appear in an Indian film production based in Sri Lanka in 2018 before producers sent him home saying his Sinhalese was not good enough.

He said: "I am pleased to be part of this film. It's such an amazing feeling for me as right now and I am just waiting for the green light so I can travel to India and start shooting.

"I do hope this film doesn't go the way it did with my last film. I was devastated when the producers turned me away, but fingers crossed this film doesn't shine away from me."

While trying to make an acting breakthrough, Rai has hosted more than 100 events in sport, film festivals and show business events but still regards the Black Country as home.

He said: "Wolverhampton is like home to me. I remember being here years ago and always loving the city, so it feels amazing to come from here."
