Hundreds of fundraisers are expected to turn out to Compton Care's fifth Colour Blast 5k at the city's East Park in September.

The event will see participants get blasted with an array of coloured powder, made from non-toxic safe corn starch, at various parts of the route – whilst scrambling over the obstacles.

People taking part can head into the colour blast arena after the race, where they are given sachets of powder paint to throw at each other.

Event organiser Sarah Wooding said: “We are extremely excited to be bringing Wolverhampton’s most colourful run back to East Park later this year.

"The atmosphere and feedback from our previous five Colour Blast 5k events has been phenomenal so we are pleased to be hosting our fifth in September, this time with the added extra of inflatable obstacles.

“The Compton Colour Blast 5k is one of the highlights in our event calendar. It’s a fantastic day out for the whole family and we are looking forward to welcoming hundreds of people to the event.”

A total of £168,152 has been raised over the last five years, which is enough to fund 210 days of care for a patient staying in the Inpatient Unit.

People taking can have been urged to dress up in wigs, tuts and wear brightly coloured clothing to take on the 5k.

John Kendrick, Tipton distribution manager from sponsors Western Power Distribution, said: “We’re committed to supporting the local communities that we serve across our region.

"We’ve been supporting Compton Care for a number of years now and this is our fourth year of sponsoring the Colour Blast. We are proud to be associated with the event, which raised such a fantastic amount over the years thanks to the effort of the organisers at Compton and everyone who has supported it.

“It’s exciting to see the event develop into an exciting new era with the addition of inflatable obstacles. We look forward to its continued success and would encourage anyone from the local area who would like to support the charity and have some fun in the process to register and take part.”

Registration for the event on September 15 is £25 until June 21, and £30 per person afterwards.
