Cheddar, brie and stilton lovers were in mouth-watering, golden heaven when Cheese Fest UK arrived in Wolverhampton.

The new event has only been in the city one time before, but organisers revealed they are thinking of making it an annual festival thanks to the popularity of this year.

Organiser Ashley Ramian said: "If Wolverhampton is as good as it looks - which it is at the moment - then we will be coming back next year."

"People just love melted cheese. We wanted to design something where people could come and have a drink. We wanted something different to the usual farmers' market."

Cheese Fest has already popped up all over the UK this year, including in Manchester, Liverpool and Coventry.

It was launched by pals Ashley, Martin, Tom and Elliott, all in their twenties. And it arrived at the Starworks Warehouse this weekend.

Ashley added: "It's actually a bit of a running joke between us but Martin first thought of the idea, and he's lactose intolerant."

The festival featured stalls selling cold artisan cheeses as well as stands serving up hot dishes, including melted cheese on potatoes from the Raclette Brothers, halloumi fries, and mac and cheese waffles.

And while visitors sat down to eat, Coronation Street star and cheesemaker Sean Wilson, delighted them with gourmet tips and tricks.

The 52-year-old, who plays Martin Platt in Corrie, took to the stage every few hours to demonstrate how to make a particular cheese dish, including Leicestershire crumbly cheese star bread and sourdough pizza.

He said: "Cheese is my life. I'm dedicated to my cheese company, Artisan Farms, and to acting too.

"The people here have been ace, clearly they have taken to the cheese."

While on stage Sean excited fans by telling them about his brief upcoming return to the ITV soap. He also invited up eager 21-year-old Charlie Harrison from Burntwood, who helped him prepare his star bread.

She said: "Sean was really nice and so friendly. I'm really excited to see him back on Corrie next week. It was great to help him with the bread too, although a bit difficult. I got a bit confused at one point."
