The cast of this year’s Stafford Festival Shakespeare production of The Merchant of Venice has begun rehearsals at Stafford Gatehouse Theatre.

Rehearsals begin for The Merchant of Venice as part of Stafford Festival Shakespeare

They are set to perform in the open air surroundings of Stafford Castle from June 27 to July 13.

The cast will spend three weeks rehearsing with director Oliver O’Shea, and group sessions with movement director Patricia Suarez.

The Merchant of Venice is set against the world of trade and commerce.

Stafford Festival Shakespeare spokeswoman, Jemma Harrison said: “This year’s production of The Merchant of Venice is set to be one of our best yet.

"The cast have been busy rehearsing with our incredible Creative Team since their arrival in the County Town earlier this month, and the show is already looking great, it really is a privilege to be a part of this ambitious production that is such a precious part of the theatre’s heritage”.

“Tickets are selling fast and I would advise anyone who has not yet done so to book early in order to avoid disappointment."

The Merchant of Venice will open on June 27 and run until July 13 2019 at Stafford Castle, with tickets available from just £15.
