The former Hart to Hart television actress is currently performing as Helene Hanff at Wolverhampton Grand alongside West End star Clive Francis.

A tender and heart-warming tale of transatlantic friendship, 84 Charing Cross Road is described as a 'bitter-sweet' comedy based on the true story of a remarkable relationship that developed over 20 years between a 'vivacious' New York writer and a London bookseller.

It has been adapted for stage by James Roose-Evans, from author Helene Hanff's best-selling novel titled 84 Charing Cross Road, in collaboration with Lee Dean and Salisbury Playhouse.

Stefanie, aged 75, is encouraging anyone in the city who 'loves the theatre' to come along and enjoy it. She said: "It's a play that's been in my life for the last couple of years. After we had it in Cambridge we always wanted another go at it. It's a slightly new incarnation, but that's very rewarding to try.

"The audience seems to be enjoying it terribly much, and of course they always do, it's a wonderful story."

84 Charing Cross Road premiered at the Salisbury Playhouse in 1981 before transferring to the West End and Broadway. It was adapted into a film in 1987, starring Anthony Hopkins, Judi Dench and Anne Bancroft as Helene, who won the BAFTA Award for Best Actress.

A star of stage and screen with a career spanning over 50 years, Stefanie is best known for her iconic role opposite Robert Wagner in Hart to Hart, which ran over five series and eight TV movies between 1979 and 1996.

Starring at the Grand is not the actress's first time in Wolverhampton, she actually performed on the stage with Richard Johnson back in February 2012 for On Golden Pond in what she called 'the worst winter England had ever seen'.

She laughed: "There were about 10 people in the audience, such brave souls."

When asked why people should come and see her new show, 84 Charing Cross Road, she said: "If you love the theatre, you will enjoy the show. Audiences seem to enjoy it very much. Just come and see for yourself."

84 Charing Cross Road will be shown at the Grand tonight (Fri) at 7.30pm and tomorrow (Sat) at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.

Tickets start from £14.50. Visit grandtheatre.co.uk for more.
