The Codsall Hive, Arts, Crafts and Creative Studio, in Church Road, near Wolverhampton, normally operates a popular pottery painting studio and cafe, which is popular with families and people of all ages.

To ensure its customers can continue to get crafty while staying at home, staff launched a contactless takeaway pottery service while the centre is closed to customers.

Kits can be delivered or collected, painted at home and then returned to The Hive to be fired.

Lavinia Thompson, owner of the studio, said: “We have been running a no-contact takeout service all year to enable people isolating to carry on painting pottery and the quality of work speaks for itself, namely that folk are definitely spending more time being artistic in their free time.

“One of our guiding principles during this unusual time was to encourage people, especially older more isolated people to stay creative as it can ease anxiety and boost well being at a time when people had less access to companionship and their usual forms of wellness. We have found many of our loyal customers have stuck with us and been grateful for our service.”

The studio has also been creating seasonal boxes, ensuring no one has had to miss out due to isolating.

Lavinia added: “We created celebration hampers, a pottery painting birthday in a wicker basket.

“At a Halloween we made Trick or treat boxes to replace the usual trick or treat activities, they sold very well.

“Now in the run up to Christmas we are selling family paint-your-own tree decoration kits as a nice family activity to do on our otherwise quiet weekends.”

Christmas is usually The Hive’s busiest period but due to restrictions it will remain limited to takeaway activities.
