Following appearances on The Xtra Factor and Celebrity Haunted Hotel Live! as well as presenting his own drive time show on Virgin Radio, last night saw Matt Richardson bring his Slash tour to The MET Studio at Stafford’s Gatehouse Theatre.

Opening the show was Katie Mulgrew, who’s conversational and interactive style did well to warm the crowd up before Richardson took to the floor.

The show focused on Richardson’s experiences of slash fiction and in particular his alleged relationships with a famous male pop star, none of which makes for very family friendly viewing. However there’s not much within this show that could be considered family friendly really.

Focussing on his relationships with various family members, a routine about his mother trying to induce labour around Marks & Spencer in the interest of free goods as well as being a pointless answer on the game show of the same name were particularly memorable.

Despite the relatively small audience, perhaps not helped by the fact the show took place on a Sunday evening, Richardson did well to make the most of the situation having the entire audience laughing for the majority of the show. The small room allowed Richardson to engage and interact with most of the audience with ease, as well as asking some younger members of the audience to look away at various points.

Having clearly worked on and perfecting the show during the Edinburgh festival, Richardson has produced a highly humorous and entertaining show that maintains a strong narrative throughout with no targets being spared including himself.

Richardson returns to the area to play Shrewsbury’s Henry Tudor House on November 26th with tickets available now.
