Game Of Thrones star Jason Momoa has apologised after he joked about raping beautiful women.

Earlier this week, a video surfaced of the actor telling a Comic-con audience in 2011 he enjoyed playing the HBO show’s Khal Drogo, as the character could “rape beautiful women” without repercussions.

In a statement on Instagram, Momoa called the joke “distasteful” adding he has witnessed the impact sexual harassment and rape can have on friends and family.

“I know my sincerest apology now won’t take away those hurtful words. Rape and sexual harassment can reach anyone and I have seen first hand its painful torment among members of my own family and friends.

“I made a truly tasteless comment. It is unacceptable and I sincerely apologise with a heavy heart for the words I said.”

The panel featured a number of Game Of Thrones actors, including Emilia Clarke, whose character is raped by Khal Drogo in the show.

He had told the audience: “As far as sci-fi and fantasy, I love that there’s so many things you can do, like rip someone’s tongue out of their throat and get away with it and rape beautiful women.”

Momoa will next appear on screens as Aquaman in DC’s big budget Justice League.
