An acrobatic swimmer from Walsall Synchronised Swimming Club is one step closer to performing in front of the Queen after making it into the Britain's Got Talent final.

Zoe Cooper, a former Great Britain team competitor who is part of swimming quartet Aquabatique, lost out in the public vote last night to Irish singer/songwriter Ryan O'Shaughnessy.

But three out of the four judges picked Zoe, aged 28, and her fellow teammates over acrobat Billy George after they performed a routine in their human-sized fish tank to music from James Bond.

Aquabatique must now come up with a new routine in tomorrow's live final to try to win the contest.

After the outdoor performance on last night's semi-final show, funnyman David Walliams told the girls: "That was all the things I love. Swimming, James Bond, skimpy gold outfits."

Meanwhile, singer Alesha Dixon said: "Girls I think you are incredible. The choreography was brilliant.

"The whole James Bond vibe was great."

An equally impressed Simon Cowell added: "I thought it was absolutely brilliant. I loved the songs, I loved the way it looked."

Zoe works for the Swimming Teachers' Association in Walsall and still coaches at the town's Gala Baths. She originally hails from Stafford.
