Helen Murphy, from Wednesbury, has penned a unique story about Santa called Searching for Santa, which looks at what would happen if he quit his job.

Mrs Murphy, who released a book about the people who build the Titanic called The Riveter earlier this year, said it was inspired by a man walking in a supermarket.

She said: “I was shopping in Morrisons a couple of years ago and I saw a man who looked just like Santa Claus as he had a really long beard.

"He seemed really sad and had lots of alcohol, so my first thought was what if Santa quit his job and became an alcoholic.

"That quickly changed and I made it a lot lighter by asking the question of what if he quit his job because of people being selfish.”

Mrs Murphy has been self-publishing her work on Amazon and said: “I think that if you have an idea for a book, go ahead and do it as you never know who might be reading it.”
