Jessica Sherry, from Wolverhampton, has written and preformed a song with her friend Peter Jones in tribute and in memory for Captain Sir Tom Moore.

Jessica Sherry, from Perton, and best friend Peter Jones, who lives in Telford, have created their song Captain in tribute to the fundraiser.

Now the duo are hoping the family of Captain Tom will hear the song – and see the positive impact he’s had on people.

Jessica and her friend Peter, known as the band Double Strings, teamed up during lockdown to create the song.

She said: “We’ve written a song called Captain for Captain Sir Tom Moore – he inspired us both and we thought ‘he has done so much for everyone’ and we wanted to give something back.

“He reminded me very much of my grandad Edward Kenny who passed away in 2018. He also fought in the Second World War and just seeing what Captain Tom had done just amazed me.

“I think it’s incredible and I felt my grandad was back for a little while bit and when he passed I thought we need to do something for him.

"We wouldn’t be where we are now without his charisma and I’m ever so grateful to him.

“We would really love for Captain Sir Tom Moore’s family to hear this song we have composed.

"I’m sure they would love to see the impact that Captain Sir Tom Moore has had on everybody.”

Captain Sir Tom Moore – known as Captain Tom – set himself a target of raising £1,000 by completing 100 lengths of his garden amid Covid-19.

But instead he ended up raising £30 million for NHS Charities Together, in time for his 100th birthday, over the course of his fundraising push.

The 100-year-old died at Bedford Hospital on February 2 after being treated for pneumonia and then testing positive for the virus.

Jessica, aged 29, added: “We’re sad he didn’t see the end of Covid-19 with everyone coming out of it, and the roadmap, and the celebrations which are to come. I’m sad he didn’t get to see that and that’s another reason why we did this.”
