Geoff Brookes, aged 78, from Rugeley, decided to write the song to spread some cheer online.

The short track, titled See It Through (For the Children), talks about the Covid-19 pandemic and encourages people to carry on staying safe and respecting Government rules to ensure that restrictions ease.

Geoff said: “Covid-19 is affecting everyone’s lives but we must stay strong and see it through – one day we will be able to meet up with our families again.”

The song features poignant lyrics which explain Geoff’s longing for life to return back to normal and restrictions to ease. The song lyrics say: “What we miss so much is just a kiss or touch, because the human race was never meant to space.

“One day we’ll love again, one day we’ll hug again, we’ll go out to play and throw our masks away.

“And when this Covid ends, we’ll meet with all our friends.

“We must see it through for the children.”

Geoff, a retired signalman, has been playing the guitar and writing his own songs since he was a child, however, this is the first song that he has posted on YouTube.

The video he made to accompany the original track was uploaded to his YouTube channel, Geoff and Chris B, and has amassed more than 1,000 views since it was posted.

The photographs used in the video which accompanies the song were taken by Geoff’s wife Chris on some of the things they have seen during their lockdown walks and also some of the places that they are looking forward to visiting again when restrictions ease.

The video has been well received by friends and family of Geoff, who have complemented him on his song writing skills, moving lyrics and singing voice.
