To celebrate Christmas, Upper Gornal Methodist Church on Spills Meadow, will begin broadcasting over the airwaves between now and Christmas Eve.

Reverend Kevin Jones, the church's superintendent minister, has been planning the launch for two years after a successful pilot scheme.

He said: "We're hoping to bring a lot of fun, a bit of chat, music and easy listening, combined with all things Christmas.

"As well as carols and festive music, we'll also be interviewing people from the area and covering local events.

"We hope it will be a success - with live radio, you can never be certain what might happen - but we hope to get lots of people tuning in."

Other churches in Gornal and Sedgley will be taking part including Lake Street, Five Ways and Zoar - a number of Church of England Churches in the area will also be volunteering their time to man the station.

Schools from around the area will be dropping into the church and will also have a chance to feature on the daily broadcasts.

The station has been partially funded by a grant from Methodist Wolverhampton which has gone towards sponsorship.

Gornal Christmas Radio will officially launch on Saturday, December 14.

The station is fully licensed and will be broadcast across the Black Country on FM 87.7 MHz.

To get in touch with the station for dedications and requests email gornalchristmasradio@gmail.com or text GCR to 07419789093.
