The quartet - made up of Dave Hill, Don Powell, John Berry and Russell Keefe - will perform at the city's O2 Institute as part of The Rockin' Home for Christmas tour.

Formed in 1966 with original members Noddy Holder, Jim Lea, Slade achieved 17 consecutive top 20 hits and six number ones on the UK Singles Chart.

They were the first act to have three singles enter the charts at number one.

Following an unsuccessful move to the United States in 1975, Slade's popularity waned but was unexpectedly revived in 1980 when they were last-minute replacements for Birmingham metal icon Ozzy Osbourne at Reading Festival.

The original line-up split in 1992, but the band re-formed later in the year as Slade II. The band have continued, with a number of line-up changes, to the present day.

They are best known for a variety of hit singles, including Merry Xmas Everybody, Far Far Away, Run Runaway, My Oh My, Coz I Luv You and many more.

Slade will play Birmingham's O2 Institute 2 on December 22.

Tickets will go on sale at 10am on July 4.
