Reef singer Gary Stringer was still on a high from witnessing his beloved Wolves' sensational last-gasp victory at Newcastle United when his band Reef hit the Black Country to rock the Robin 2 in Bilston.

The bearded singer was in great form on a set that spanned the Glastonbury band's long career and he even descended into the packed audience during Just Feel Love to sing amidst his fans.

The first few songs of Reef's 15-song main set were plagued by some sound problems, but the energy, invention and drive of the band – who released live album In Motion on February 22 – easily overcame that.

Fans happily sang along throughout the concert that opened with Naked.

Bass legend Jack Bessant was, as usual at the heart of the five-piece's sound with Jesse Wood shining on guitar. New French drummer Guillaume Charreau, with his massive hair, is a great addition to the live sound with Andrew Wallace filling it out on keyboards.

Songs from the band's new album Revelation, including Precious Metal and Lone Rider, were well received, but it was the Reef classics that stood out and were greeted euphorically, particularly Higher Vibration and Place Your Hands.

The set finished with an ecstatic version of Yer Old, but Reef returned for a three-song bonus encore of Lucky Number, Come Back Brighter and finally The Faces' Stay With Me, which originally featured Jesse's dad Ronnie Wood, who had appeared with the band on an earlier tour date.

Support was from Birmingham's four-piece Broken Witt Rebels, who will have made many new fans in the Black Country, with an exemplary 11-song set.

Singer Danny Core, delighted to be performing for an audience in his native West Midlands, has a fantastic bluesy voice and James Tranter is excellent on guitar.

Stand outs on the night were Guns, Snake Eyes, Howlin' and the outstanding finisher Shake Me Down.
