Quiet time – Emma Burton says yoga is also about finding inner calm

We all want to relax, forget about our troubles and find inner peace with both our lives and our choices. Sounds so easy doesn’t it? Well, yoga teacher Emma Burton is on a mission to make this happen and wants to encourage people to take valuable time for themselves every day.

Emma, who has a yoga studio in Shropshire, says she has found a way to help busy people easily commit to daily yoga practice.

She has launched a new Elevating Yoga and Energy Editing® course, called My Soul’s Purpose, which is the first of its kind in the world.

Energy Editing® is said to be a powerful healing modality that creates rapid change in the energy system and is combined for the first time with yoga to create the Elevating Yoga practice.

She says it removes blocks from aspects of your life which are holding you back, enabling everyone to live their life to the fullest potential.

By doing this practice for 10 minutes, five days a week, Emma says participants will be able to connect quickly to ‘their soul’s purpose’.

It’s designed as a nine-week course with different weekly focuses, that are repeated five times and so that anyone can do it from the comfort of their home.

“Not everyone has the time to come to the studio but all they need for this is a room at home or at work,” she says.

“So many people lose their way in the hustle and bustle of today’s hectic world. This course will put them back on track, through elevating yoga.

“My participants will find themselves able to follow their dreams and enjoy life to the full once again,” explains Emma.

“It can make you feel energised, feel respect for yourself and all things which can have a massive difference on the way you feel about life.

“It guides participants through the 13 keys to becoming your own hero, within the nine weeks. The course is not hard and unobtainable and is suitable for everyone, including beginners to yoga.

“You can stay connected and on purpose by just practicing for a few minutes every day. You can create the feeling of space around your life and you can create new positive daily habits, enhancing your life,” she explains.

Emma, aged 42, opened up her yoga studio – My Soul Space – in Shrewsbury two and a half years ago but has been practicing yoga for 22 years and teaching for the past 16.

The studio offers classes in yoga, hot yoga, yin classes and elemental yoga six days a week for men, women, young and old, as well as pregnancy yoga and one-to-one tuition.

She fell in love with yoga in her first class and while learning her new practice that day she was inspired by a lady in her 80s balancing on one leg looking serene.

Totally in awe of how she felt after the class and what she had observed, she became fascinated by this practice, travelling the world to discover all she could before training in Australia and Switzerland to become a teacher.

“It’s not all about stretching and bending, it’s about finding that feeling of calm and quiet space inside yourself which makes you feel amazing,” explains Emma.

“Yoga is becoming more and more popular all over the country and there are these yoga-related Instagram pictures supposedly showing the perfect body and the perfect pose but for me yoga isn’t about that – it’s about feeling good on the inside and finding those moments of gratitude.”

These are the values Emma stands by in life and in yoga. . .

1. Practice – it doesn’t have to be perfect

2. Gratitude – being grateful for all our blessings

3. Acceptance – of yourself in this moment as you are right now

4. Nurture – you nourish your soul and enjoy some headspace

5. Humour – laughing at yourself, not taking it all too seriously!
