The 'Dinner With Strangers' event has been set up by Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games with the aim of people bringing people together during a time of separation.

Participants aged from 19 to 78-years-old have been selected and paired up to discuss their experiences of lockdown and hopes for the future.

One of the participants is 71-year-old Sandra Harris from Dudley, who has recently recovered from Covid-19.

She said: “I contracted Covid-19 after a shift at the hospital where I work as a volunteer. I was taken to A&E after feeling dizzy and ended up spending 10 days in hospital. My family called me every day in tears, they were worried sick. They didn’t think I was going to make it.

“After a difficult few weeks, I’m really looking forward to having dinner with somebody I’ve never met before. I hope we get on well and we have plenty to talk about.”

Dinner with Strangers will also include chief executive of the Commonwealth Games Federation, David Grevemberg, Team England’s rhythmic gymnast Mimi-Isabella Cesar, 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Dominick Cunningham, and Birmingham MPs Preet Gill and Gary Sambrook.
