Wolverhampton pub named "outstanding" in pub awards

A pub in Wolverhampton has been praised for being a top community pub.

The Red Lion, Wednesfield, was named as an "outstanding" pub during the Publican Awards.

Pub firm Stonehouse Pub Ltd, which runs the Amos Lane pub, took home the award for Best Community Pub Operator.

In total, the company took home five awards.

The awards celebrated the achievement so pubs across the country.

General manager, Hannah Johnson, said: “Pubs have a really important role to play in bringing the community together and I am absolutely delighted that we have been recognised as being the best community pub in the area.

"The team works really hard to make customers feel welcome, regardless of whether they are local regulars or passing visitors."

The pub, which has recently seen a £250,000 revamp, was also praised by Wolverhampton North East MP.

She said: "I really enjoyed meeting the team at the Red Lion, it looks great after its refurbishment. Pubs are an integral part of the local community and I am pleased to see confidence in Wolverhampton pubs, demonstrated by this investment.”

The pub runs family-orientated events and offers a wide range of pub classics on its menu – ranging from classics to vegetarian, vegan and gluten free dishes.

It also offers a wide range of beers, wines and spirits included more than 20 gins, alongside sport shown throughout the pub.
