Elbow to play Birmingham
Rockers Elbow will play for fans in Birmingham next year.
The English four-piece today announced the tour in addition to releasing new track Kindling (Fickle Flame).
This special re-recorded version of the album track sees the song transformed into a duet between Guy Garvey and John Grant.
John Grant and his band will also be the special guest on the tour.
Elbow say they have long been admirers of John’s music and they became friends when John toured with the band in the US in 2014 and the collaboration came about following a speculative conversation between the members of Elbow.
Frontman Guy Garvey said: "We are always looking for ways to lead new ears to our records and the idea of duetting with John on the track came from a dressing room conversation in Cork.
"I felt that there was space in the song between the original vocals for a sympathetic voice and a romantic close harmony.
"John was the first person that came to mind for us when we thought about who could do that."
"The last guest on an Elbow record was Richard Hawley on ‘The Fix’ which is a Matthau / Lemmon style comedic caper. I
" felt I could write friendship into a romantic song and as John is both a good friend and a true romantic it worked perfectly.
"We like to think the listener can feel the beards nuzzling on either side of their neck.”
Songs Elbow is best known for include One Day Like This, Grounds For Divorce, Magnificent and Lippy Kids.
In 2008 Elbow won the Mercury Music Prize for their album The Seldom Seen Kid, and in 2009 they won the Brit Award for Best British Group. In 2012 they released First Steps, the BBC theme for the 2012 London Olympics.
Elbow plays the Genting Arena on March 3, 2018.
Kindling (Fickle Flame) is available to download and stream from today. The album Little Fictions is available now.
Tickets to the gig go on sale this Friday at 9am.
