Chinese New Year: Top places to celebrate the Year of the Dog in the Midlands and Shropshire
The Year of The Dog arrives on February 16 - and there are plenty of places to mark the Chinese New Year across the Midlands and Shropshire.

Chinese New Year Celebrations - Newport - Saturday, February 10
Held in the town’s St Mary’s Street, this outdoor event once more returns following a great turnout in 2017.
Expect performances, stalls, food and more.
The businesses in Newport are also getting involved with competitions and special promotions.
Last year’s event saw more than 50 stalls in the town, as well as singing, dancing and dragons.
The event will run from midday till 6pm. Free entry.
Mass Chinese New Year celebration - Birmingham’s Chinatown - Sunday, February 18
More than 30,000 people are expected to descend on the second city this year for this huge celebration.
The event will see an array of Chinese street food on offer, from dumplings to noodles, from a range of regions in China.
There will also be Chinese music and back-to-back cultural dances and movements on multiple stages.
The event, set in the heart of Chinatown, will see the whole area decorated too and activities for children and adults alike.
Other entertainment will include face-painting, lion dancing, firecrackers, acrobats and martial artists.
The event will run from 11.30am to 5pm and entry is free.
Chinese New Year Extravaganza - Oakengates Theatre, Telford - Sunday, February 11
Celebrate the Chinese New Year with a spectacular show at Oakengates Theatre.
Touring across the UK, the Chinese New Year Extravaganza show features a team of performers showcasing an array of Chinese performing arts.
From the traditional Lion Dance, through to contortion, feet juggling, acrobatics and more, this is a show for all the family.
Two shows will take place on Sunday - with one at 2pm and another at 6.30pm.
Tickets cost £18 for adults and £16 for children and concessions.
Family tickets (for four, with a minimum of two children) are priced at £55.
Half Term Chinese New Year Party - Newhampton Arts Centre, Wolverhampton - Wednesday, February 21
Celebrate The New Chinese Year of the Dog with Chinese crafts, traditional qigong and Chinese snacks in the café.
Suitable for all ages.
Event starts at 10am.
