The Friends of Hednesford Park gained grant funding through the Building Resilient Families and Communities Project in 2018.

The sculpture is the last of the bigger activities in the two-year programme.

Robot Cossey has been commissioned to sculpt a totem pole representing the story of the popular park.

John Jones, committee member, said: “The bird at the top embodies local miners who pulled the money together to establish Hednesford Park in 1931 through a levy on each bag of coal sold.”
