The Tettenhall Transport Heritage Centre has invested £20,000 in replacing the windows of the museum, which have been in place for more than 100 years.

Curator Alec Brew spoke about why the windows had needed changing and how the museum was able to fund the work.

He said: "The previous windows had been in place for over a century and the frames were bent and broken, as well as having different panes of glass from replacements over the years.

"They were in a real state and needed to be repaired, which followed on from fixing the roof, and they had to be the same style as before.

"We were able to fund the work through a grant of £12,000 from the Ibstock-Enovert Trust, with the rest coming from donations and what we sell in the shop."

The work was done by specialist heritage window fitters Drury Casement and has helped the museum to continue its modernisation of facilities.

The new windows are part of the continual modernisation of the 100-year-old building

Alec said the museum was a community one run by volunteers such as himself and was a registered charity, as well as the only industrial museum in Wolverhampton.

He said the new windows at the museum, which had been closed for several weeks to allow for the repairs, was the next step in their work to refurbish the museum.

He said: "It is continual redevelopment for us and we are looking at an extension next because our museum is packed full of things and we've nowhere else to go.

"It's the case that it's sort of outgrown its original home and we want to make sure we keep it local and maintain the heritage of it.

"We're all enthusiasts here, whether it's through aviation, railways, motorbikes or road transport, so we want to ensure it can be enjoyed by all."
