The multiple screen cinema complex and restaurant will take up the space vacated by the former Argos store.

It will provide 150 seats for visitors, with an additional 1,850sq ft developed for a restaurant area.

LCP, which owns and manages the centre, will also enhance the site fronting onto Cleveland Street.

Andrew Barrett, retail director at Kingswinford-based LCP, said: "We’re pleased to have received positive support from within the community to further enhance the diverse offering within Wulfrun Shopping Centre and to bring a highly anticipated leisure hub to the heart of the city centre, which welcomes some nine million visitors each year.

“The hard work is just beginning and we are looking forward to forging ahead with our plans, to the benefit of the shopping centre and to the people of Wolverhampton, who I’m sure will welcome the convenience of a city centre cinema.”

Discussions are ongoing with potential operators.

The Wulfrun cinema will be the second independent picture house in the city, joining the Light House Media Centre based in the Chubb Buildings on Fryer Street.

Meanwhile plans still exist to bring a national cinema chain to the city as part of the £55 million Westside development.
