Brightly-coloured flowers, characters and a range of patterns cover posts that line the streets at the Brewery Street Shopping Centre in Rugeley.

The newly-formed Cannock Chase Yarn Bomb Group, which was established in June, spent months knitting the designs to decorate the streets and add a splash of colour to raise money for the Midlands Air Ambulance.

Yarn bombing is an activity where objects in a pubic place are covered with decorative knitted or crocheted material as a form of street art.

Owner of The Little Wool Shop Joyce Swinston was behind the plans.

The 59-year-old said: "I was talking to a customer about how much I wanted to do a yarn bomb and she had no idea what it was but loved the idea of it when I explained it to her.

"We got a small group of three together in June and it has been a journey. We are so proud of the result and people really seem to like them. They will spend time deciding which one is the best in their opinion and it makes them smile when they walk past.

"We are asking anyone who likes the designs to donate to Midlands Air Ambulance inside the shop.

"I learned to knit from a very young age and taught myself how to crochet when I was 14-years-old. It is very therapeutic.

"All age groups and abilities are welcome to join the group. We give out information to help people learn or develop.

The art will be on display for passers-by to admire until Saturday (Sept 29).
